Faith in Action

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” MATTHEW 28:18-20

The Faith in Action Missionary and Outreach Ministry serves the greater New Haven and Hamden communities by providing programs, services, and spiritual outreach activities to the most vulnerable individuals and families within our community. We are organized to collaborate with CTBC’s We Are One ministry, as well as churches, faith organizations, community organizations and other groups to meet the urgent needs of all God’s people.

The Praying Hands Ministry seeks to remind individuals of God’s comfort, hope, courage, strength and love when they encounter difficult moments in life. We pray for these individuals and provide a prayer blanket as a tangible reminder of the care God has for them. We make these blankets and, at the direction of the Pastor, provide them to those experiencing health challenges, the bereaved or those who simply need encouragement.

While people call what we create prayer blankets, prayer shawls, peace blankets, or comfort mantels, it is the process by which we create them that is most important. The Praying Hands Ministry, consisting of many prayer warriors, make each blanket by singing, praying and meditating as each knot of healing is tied. The selection of fabric and color for each blanket for is done through prayer and selected by the Ministry to complement the spiritual needs of each recipient.

Whether they live locally or outside our community, each church member or friend of our church is informed of our prayers of peace for them in an effort to express our love for them. Our prayer to God is that as the recipients wrap themselves in these blankets, God will comfort and enfold them with hope, joy, peace and love and that they may receive the many blessing that will flow from us to them. The blankets are tangible evidence of God’s love. Hebrews 11:1, tells us that faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not see. If you have faith, all things are possible.
